Third Conversation Roundtable on Suicide Prevention

NATSILMH co-hosted (with the Centre for Research Excellence in Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing, the Telethon Kids Institute, and the Poche Centre and School of Indigenous Studies, University of Western Australia) a two-day Roundtable in Perth on 23 -24 June 2014 featuring Canadian academic Professor Michael Chandler.

This was Professor Chandler's third visit to Australia to discuss suicide prevention. Approximately 50 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous leaders, experts and stakeholders attended. The resulting Call to Action affirms culture as central to improving social and emotional wellbeing, mental health and reducing suicide. It affirms that action to reduce suicide should be informed by culturally informed research knowledge and evidence, and supports whole of community and whole of government approaches.
